idsMED Singapore was a Silver sponsor at a collaborative event between the National University Hospital (NUH) and the University of Pittsburg Medical Centre (UPMC) held at the Khoo Teck Puat Advanced Surgical Training Centre (ASTC) from 17 to 20 October 2023. The event titled NUH-UPMC Comprehensive Endoscopic Skull Base Cadaveric Course & Skull Base Tumours Symposium brought together medical professionals including Neurosurgeons, Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Surgeons, and Head and Neck Surgeons from Singapore and the Asia Pacific region (Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam).
The event featured UPMC’s overseas faculty members, Professor Paul Gardner (Neurosurgery) and Professor Eric Wang (ENT), as well as more than 15 Neurosurgeons and ENT Surgeons from the Asia Pacific region who are recognised speakers and key opinion leaders in skull base surgery. The course and symposium, jointly directed by Dr. Vincent Nga, Head and Senior Consultant Neurosurgeon; and Dr. Xu Xinni, Consultant, Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery, both from NUHS, with Professor Gardner and Professor Wang, resulted in a fruitful and meaningful event.
The course on the first two days covered the cadaveric dissection demonstrations with 4 laboratory sessions where over 40 attendees engaged in fresh anatomical specimen dissection, lectures, panel discussions, 3D anatomy lectures and case presentations. Over 100 attendees participated in the symposium in the last two days, which focused on topics related to the endoscopic endonasal surgery of the ventral skull base procedure, including the risks, benefits, and outcomes.
In addition to the lectures, discussions and presentations, the symposium featured exhibition booths where over 14 vendors, including idsMED Singapore, showcased their product offerings. The idsMED booth featured Integra’s Neurosurgery portfolio products including CUSA Clarity, Certas Plus, Codman Neurosurgery range and Mayfield Brain Retraction System.
The event provided a valuable opportunity for both local and international clinicians to gain hands-on experience with the devices. It also allowed the idsMED team to better understand the medical professionals’ specific needs and expectations.
idsMED Singapore commends the great effort exerted by the FSS Neurosurgery and MSC Teams, which significantly contributed to the success of the event and reinforced good relations with key Neurosurgeons.
