idsMED office staff and the FSS team who attended the Presentation 101 skills training on 6 December and 12 December 2022, respectively, have to put their skills into practice to be confident in making presentations.
The trainers, Debbie Wang of CHRO, May Teoh, former Director of Learning & Development, and Daphne Lee, Taiwan HR Manager, ensured that the trainees practice the skills and arranged 8–15-minute presentations for each person during the Lunch & Learn sessions. The presenters were free to choose any topic they like, whether it was about sharing a book, a video, a movie, their hobbies, or something they are good at. The main objectives of this activity are twofold:
1. To help those who have stage fright overcome their fear of public speaking by giving them an opportunity to speak on stage.
2. To help those who enjoy public speaking to become more organised and logical in their presentations.
At the beginning of the program, people were reluctant to volunteer as presenters. However, after three Lunch & Learn sessions, a few people began to take the initiative to volunteer as presenters in the next Lunch & Learn session.
Since December 2022, six people have made their presentations. Allan Yang, who likes to travel has shared about his November 2022 trip to Hokkaido, Japan, while Alice Lin shared her experiences and tips as a backpacker. Charles Yang, who keeps learning and enriching himself, taught us his learning methods, and how to set learning goals. Hsin Hu shared about “Downshifting” and how it changed his life, while Nancy Yu shared about her online shopping experiences, as well as helpful tips in identifying good quality websites. Vick Liang introduced Parkinson’s disease and Dementia and shared how to take care of elder people who are afflicted with these illnesses.
Each presenter showed the knowledge and skills they had acquired outside of regular work, and through the Lunch & Learn presentations, idsMED staff got to know their colleagues better.
After seeing the staff’s enthusiasm for learning and observing how they immediately applied what they have learned at work, idsMED Taiwan is eagerly anticipating the next round of Lunch & Learn sessions as well as Presentation 102 skills training.
