Have you ever wondered if people with dysphagia, a medical term for swallowing difficulty, can ever enjoy the same food that we consume?

The Project Futurus, a social enterprise, hopes to transform aged care and reimagine the future of ageing. Through education, advocacy, community service, and impact programme design, their Captain Softmeal, a superhero clad in green with a white wig, promotes better-quality food for people with swallowing difficulties.

Representing idsMED Singapore, Mr. Shrikanth Sankar, SVP & Managing Director, welcomed over 50 healthcare professionals and chefs for an interesting and interactive introductory session – Eating with Dignity - at the idsMED Learning Academy on 28 October 2024.

Helming from Hong Kong, Ms. Queenie Man, Founder and CEO of The Project Futurus, conducted the session introducing the concept of soft meals, which provides dignified dining solutions for the elderly with swallowing difficulties. Her platform advocating dignity dining and alter ego, Captain Softmeal is a pioneer in soft meal development.

In collaboration with Robot-Coupe, a preparation demonstration and sampling session provided attendees with a glimpse and taste of the texture-modified foods that are both appealing and nutritious. The range of texture-modified diets comply with The International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI)—Levels 4 to 5. Robot-Coupe has over 60 years of innovation, designing, developing, and manufacturing food preparation equipment in France since 1961.

Upon sampling the freshly prepared soft food distributed by the ILTC team, the attendees were amazed by the texture and how quickly these foods can be prepared and in considerable quantities which will then help in maintaining the freshness of the foods while reducing preparation time.

Aligned with idsMED’s vision “We Deliver Healthcare Solutions to Improve Quality of Life”, this innovation can help improve the quality of life of people with swallowing difficulties, which is often not talked about and is a cause of elderly malnutrition.

idsMED Singapore hopes that through hosting events like this, healthcare professionals will be able to get to know the innovative solutions that we provide and make more informed decisions.
