1st Level Technical Training is one of the activities to educate the users in hospitals (including staff nurse, medical assistant, etc) and also the biomedical engineering team on basic technical solution for Ventilator. During the training, participants was exposed to some type of Ventilators, its class and types in medical equipment scope, units division of Ventilator, how to do pre-use check, the important to use original spare parts, cleaning and maintenance. The main objective of this training is to let users learn on how to do simple troubleshooting for Ventilator. The reason is to make them more alert and make sure the maintenance was done in right way by engineering team especially during preventive maintenance. Besides, this is a good start for junior staff in biomedical engineering team to learn about the Ventilator before go for more details.
The participation was comprised of Medical Assistants, Staff Nurses, Sister who in-charge of a department, and Biomedical Engineering teams. For government hospital, participants will be the end users, which is as a person who will handle the application of equipment to the patients. While for private hospital was participated by technical staff from engineering department which is a responsible person to maintain the function of equipment.
It is very important to change the original parts such as Oxygen cell, battery module and PPM kits. Generally, by changing the parts by using original part will help to expand the life span of the equipment. For Oxygen cell, original part will last until 1.5-2 years while OEM Oxygen cell will only last for less than a year. OEM oxygen cell also may affect the accuracy of the Oxygen concentration that being delivered. Using original battery module will prevent the short circuit and protect the other board as well. Original PPM kit need to change annually or every 5000 hours which come first. PPM kit will help to maintain optimal performance of Ventilator.
At the end of the training, there was a session to share and give feedback about the training provided. Most of the participants were strongly agreed that such training being held. This is because, such training provide additional knowledge to them beside than knowing only the functionality of the machine.
