Singapore’s National Day is more than just another public holiday for festivities and spectacular parades. Every year on 9 August, Singaporeans come together to reflect upon how far the nation has come and collectively look forward to the future. This year, idsMED Singapore commemorated Singapore’s 59th birthday with a vibrant National Day Teatime Party on 7 August 2024 at the idsMED Learning Academy.
In a bid to unite employees in the spirit of National Day, the HR team organised a series of activities that took everyone on a delightful trip down memory lane. The afternoon kicked off with a series of classic games that harked back to simpler times, namely five stones, chapteh, and goli. The competitive spirit was alive and well as everyone formed teams and revisited the simple pleasures of these beloved games.
As it was a teatime party, a special cake designed with the Singapore flag was ordered, and the tables were lined with a variety of traditional treats, from savoury delights to sweet confections. This included yam cakes, soon kueh, peng kueh, and an assortment of Nyonya kueh. Adding a playful, culturally resonant element to the festivities, a wide range of old-school snacks were prepared as game prizes and also for every participant to win through a spin-the-wheel roulette. These familiar favourites not only satisfied cravings but also brought a taste of nostalgia to everyone who participated.
Overall, idsMED Singapore’s National Day celebration was a resounding success, thanks to the meticulous planning and creativity of the HR team, and the enthusiasm from all the participants. The event not only highlighted Singapore’s cultural traditions and allowed everyone to revisit their childhood, but it also helped strengthen the bond between colleagues through shared memories and experiences. It was an afternoon to remember, filled with fun, laughter, and a deep sense of belonging to this nation that we call home.
